Life’s true goal
What is it that we seek? Joy, love, pride?
The chaotic boom of the footsteps of children running,
knowing you brought them here,
the spark of youth in their eyes
What is it that we seek? Beauty, art, truth?
The painter’s perfect portrait, the author’s magnum opus
The chirping of birds seemingly captured in a soundless frame,
the photographer finds his truth.
To seek is to live, to seek is human
We dream of being worthy seekers.
IB Learner Skill - Balanced
In writing this poem, the assignment was to create a poem following Whitman's own techniques in writing. I believe this demonstrates the skill of balance because I had to balance all of these different techniques in a poem of my own. I couldn't overdo the repetition, nor could I underuse other literary devices like alliteration.
How can this particular evidence help me in the future?
Studying the works and techniques of great writers of the past is always a great way to improve my skills. I can understand just what made them so great, and even use some of the techniques I learn.
Which challenges did I face when developing this particular evidence?
One of the biggest challenges was having to strictly follow the guidelines of the assignment, as I struggled a bit tryin to include all of the devices without making the poem seem forced.
